Malindi leaves a lasting impression. The sun was intense, lighting up the clear, turquoise waters. Its beaches, known for their beauty, stretch for miles with clean, open shores. The waves and the endless horizon made every moment stand out.
Known for its historical significance, Malindi has been a prominent coastal town for centuries. It was a thriving port for the Portuguese in the 16th century, and remnants of this colonial past can still be seen in landmarks like the Vasco da Gama Pillar, erected in 1498 to mark Vasco da Gama’s arrival. The town’s Swahili culture blends with influences from Arabic, Portuguese, and even Italian settlers, creating a diverse and vibrant atmosphere.
Glad I had my camera to capture these moments, solid memories I’ll carry with me. Malindi’s unique mix of nature and history made it a perfect place to explore and reflect. From the shimmering waters of Watamu Marine Park to the fascinating Malindi National Museum, the area offers something for every traveler.
